studies have shown that windows vista is more secure then windows xp.  The studies that microsoft that windows vista is 37% more secure then windows xp but windows vista  migration is still lower then windows xp.

microsoft made a decision to Extend its support for windows Xp SP2 windows xp users will have time to upgrade to Windows Xp sp3 but microsoft managed to extend its support for sp2 but microsoft urges windows xp users running SP2 to upgrade to the final service pack for windows xp because its enhances the security for it's OS.so this means windows user running windows xp SP2 will have 24 months to upgrade to its final Service Pack SP3.
